Description

Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) is a flowerless, rush-like perennial native to the temperate and arctic regions of the northern hemisphere, including North America, Europe, Asia, and North Africa, that has been around in one form or another since the time of the dinosaurs. This ancient history has earned Horsetail the nickname of “living fossil”. During its modern growing cycle, Horsetail’s brown, yellowish-tan, or greenish stems start to appear in early spring. These are asparagus-like shoots with whorls of brown scale leaves that can reach up to 18 inches tall. Once shed, these are replaced by green, stiff, hollow, deeply grooved stems without branchlets. In North America, E. arvense and E. telmateia produce numerous branchlets about 1 mm thick arranged in whorls around the stem, giving Horsetail the appearance of little miniature pine trees.

Horsetail is widely known for its mineral content including silica, potassium, calcium, aluminum, sulfur, magnesium, and manganese. Horsetail is often used to support healthy tissues and bone throughout the body, including hair, skin and nails. Horsetail is also frequently used for its diuretic action and in supporting a healthy urinary system.

Precautions: Not for use in persons with kidney disease. We recommend that you consult with a qualified healthcare practitioner before using herbal products, particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, or on any medications.
